Jimmies snap Bruins' 11-match winning streak

JAMESTOWN, N.D. -- In the University of Jamestown's first home match of the season, the 23rd-ranked Jimmies took advantage of 33 Bellevue University hitting errors and 11 service errors as UJ upset the 17th-ranked Bruins 3-1 (25-20, 25-12, 17-25, 25-20) Friday night in North Star Athletic Association action at the newly christened Newman Arena. 

Bellevue, which saw its 11-match winning streak snapped, fell to 17-4 on the season and 5-1 in the NSAA. Jamestown improved to 10-6 overall and 3-1 in league play. 

Shayla Scanlan and Rachel Wald each produced eight kills to lead the Bruin offense, while Cheyenne Mahnke and Fabiola Aviles each collected 10 digs to pace the BU defense.

Sophomore setter Maddie Squiers finished with 29 assists, three kills, and three digs as BU hit a season-low .026 on the night.  

The Jimmies were led by Isabel Wedell's 12 kills. 

The Bruins will travel to Dickinson, N.D. on Saturday (Sept. 30) for a 7 p.m. NSAA match at Dickinson State University.
