SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- The 21st-ranked Bellevue University volleyball team registered a pair of 3-0 sweeps on Saturday defeating Peru State College (27-25, 25-16, 25-17) and John Brown University (25-17, 25-22, 25-21). The Bruins finished the Evangel Classic with a perfect 4-0 record, improving to 10-3 on the season.
Bellevue opens conference play on Wednesday, Sept. 13, when they host Waldorf University at 6 p.m. at the Gordon Lozier Athletic Center.

Shayla Scanlan registered 13 kills on .400 hitting to lead the BU attack in the sweep over the Bobcats. Maddie Squiers directed the Bruin offense to a .303 hitting percentage while collecting 41 assists, eight digs, and eight kills.
Freshman Cheyenne Mahnke anchored the BU defense with a career-high 25 digs while the Bruins held PSC to a .136 hitting percentage.
Claire Cudney and Alex Bowman each recorded six kills to pace the Bobcat offense.
The Bruins fought back from a five-point deficit in the opening set before securing the 27-25 victory on BU's third chance on a Squiers' kill.
Bellevue never trailed in the second set and BU cruised to the 25-16 victory. The Bruins hit a sizzling .389 in the third set to secure the three-set sweep.

Mikaylah Gillespie led the Bruin offense and Squiers recorded her third double-double of the weekend as BU cruised to the 3-0 sweep over John Brown to end the tournament.
Gillespie pounded 16 kills on .406 hitting while adding three blocks and a pair of digs. Squiers finished with 39 assists, a career-high 23 digs, and six kills. The BU offense hit at a .203 clip in the match.
Led by Squiers, four Bruins finished in double figures in digs as BU held an 83-69 advantage in total digs.
JBU was led by Bayli Reagan's 11 kills and 11 digs.
The Bruins led from start to finish in the first in third sets, but had to overcome an early six-point deficit in the second before securing the 25-22 victory.
