BELLEVUE, Neb. -- Shayla Scanlan and Mikaylah Gillespie combined for 31 kills and Maddie Squiers recorded a double-double as the 20th-ranked Bellevue University volleyball team earned a 3-1 (25-22, 19-25, 25-20, 27-25) win over William Woods University Friday afternoon in the Bruins' first match of the Premier Labor Day Classic. 

The Bruins improved to 4-2 overall with the win while WWU fell to 2-1 on the season. 

Scanlan pounded 17 kills on .375 hitting while adding five digs and a block. Gillespie collected 14 kills on .393 hitting with five digs and three blocks. 

Squiers directed the BU offense to a .245 attack percentage while producing 59 assists, 11 digs and three service aces. 

Fabiola Aviles notched a career-high 23 digs to pace the Bruin defense which registered a season-high 93 digs. 

The Owls had four players in double figures led by Rayleen Rivera and Tory Wiley who collected 13 kills apiece. 

The Bruins continue action in the tournament at 7 p.m. tonight with a contest against 24th-ranked Madonna University.
