SEWARD, Neb. -- The Bruins saved three match points in the fourth set, before rebounding for a 3-2 (25-20, 23-25, 22-25, 31-29, 15-7) non-conference victory at Concordia (Neb.) University Wednesday night at Walz Arena. 

With the win, Bellevue improved to 3-2 on the season. The Bulldogs fell to 2-4 overall. 

Shayla Scanlan led the BU offense with 19 kills on .333 hitting, while adding three blocks. Mikaylah Gillespie added 11 kills, nine digs, three assists and three blocks. Andrea Carson was the third Bruin in double figures with 10 kills on .233 hitting. 

After surviving three match points in the fourth, the Bruins finally converted on their fourth set point on a kill down the line on the rightside by Scanlan, to even the match with the marathon 31-29 win. 

BU raced out to a 7-2 lead in the fifth before cruising to the 15-7 fifth-set win. 

Maddie Squiers directed the Bruin offense to a .237 hitting percentage, dishing out 50 assists while adding eight digs, three kills, three aces and a pair of blocks. Freshman Cheyenne Mahnke anchored the BU defense with a career-high 16 digs. 

Outside hitters Alex La Plant (18) and Kelsey Baarck (14) combined for 32 kills to pace the Bulldog offense.  

The Bruins will host the 22-team Premier Labor Day Classic this Friday-Saturday, Sept. 1-2 at the Lied Activity Center on 2700 Aboretum Drive in Bellevue. The Bruins' first opponent will be William Woods University at 11 a.m. on Friday.
