BUTTE, Mont. – The 20th-ranked Bellevue University volleyball team fell to Northwest (Wash.) University, 3-0 (25-19, 25-14, 25-19) Friday night in continuing action at the Big Sky Challenge. The Bruins, who defeated Montana State University-Northern earlier in the day, fell to 1-1 on the season. 

The Eagles, who outhit BU .333 to .074, improved to 4-1 on the season with the win. 

Bellevue committed 23 hitting errors and had eight receive errors in the loss. 

Freshman Andrea Carson paced the BU offense with nine kills on .269 hitting, while adding a pair of digs and a block. Shayla Scanlan added seven kills and a block. 

Taylor Holz led the Bruin defense with a match-high 17 digs. 

Sophomore Maddie Squiers tallied 20 assists, two digs and a kill. 

Mattie Jo Johnson hit a scorching .900 with nine kills on 10 errorless swings to pace the Eagle offense.  

The Bruins continue action at the tournament on Saturday (Aug. 26) with a 10 a.m. match (CDT) against No. 25 College of Idaho and an 8 p.m. contest versus No. 23 Carroll College.
