BUTTE, Mont. – The 20th-ranked Bellevue University volleyball team recovered from a 2-1 deficit to pull out a 5-set win over Montana-State University Northern to open the 2017 season Friday morning at the Big Sky Challenge. Paced by three players in double figures, the Bruins won by scores of 21-25, 26-24, 17-25, 25-13, 15-6.  

Mikaylah Gillespie led all players with 14 kills on .323 hitting. She also added two blocks and a pair of digs. Rachel Wald added 12 kills, four digs, and two service aces. Shayla Scanlan contributed with 11 kills and three blocks. 

Maddie Squiers directed the BU offense, finishing with 48 assists, nine digs, and seven kills.  

Lauren Colpitts registered a career-high 20 digs to anchor the Bruin defense which held the Skylights to a .115 hitting percentage in the match, including no kills in the decisive fifth set.  

MSUN was led by Cassie Krueger and Mikayla Virostek, who each tallied eight kills. 

The Skylights fell to 2-3 on the season with the loss. 

The Bruins (1-0) will continue action at the tournament later tonight at 6:00 p.m. central time against Northwest (Wash.) University.
