BELLEVUE, Neb. -- In a match that was closer than the 3-0 final score indicates the Bellevue University volleyball team topped Montana State-Northern on Saturday afternoon at the Lied Activity Center to wrap up their participation in the Bruin Labor Day Classic. It was the first time since 2012 that Bellevue swept their way through four matches at Bruin Labor Day Classic.

Bellevue took the opening set in extra serves 26-24 before winning with ever so slightly more ease, 25-21, in the second set. In the third BU trailed as late as 24-23 before rallying for a 27-25 third set victory and sweep.

Senior Beth Walker recorded her second straight double-double and sixth of the season, finishing the match with 38 assists and 12 digs. Sophomore Rachel Wald and freshman Lauren Colpitts co-led the Bruins with 13 kills apiece while freshman Shayla Scanlan also reached double figures with 11.

Defensively, the Bruins got strong contributions from sophomore Taylor Holz (25 digs), Wald (11 digs), freshman Erin Warren (11 digs), and sophomore Mikaylah Gillespie (5 block assists).

Bellevue (5-5) returns to play on Friday, Sept. 11 with a pair of matches at the Baker Tournament in Baldwin City, Kan. The Bruins will play (RV) Ottawa at 1 p.m. and No. 12 Northwestern at 5 p.m.
