GRAND ISLAND, Neb. -- Freshman Marylyn Mozena recorded a double-double (11 kills, 13 digs) and classmate Shayla Scanlan finished with a season-high 11 kills but it wasn't enough as the Bellevue University volleyball team dropped a five set heart-breaker to Hastings College on Friday evening at the Heartland Events Center as part of the opening act at the 146th Nebraska State Fair.

As a team, Bellevue managed just seven kills in the opening set but benefitted from stout defense and numerous unforced errors by Hastings on their way to a 25-19 opening set win. The Broncos turned the tables in the second set, winning by an identical 25-19 margin to level the match at one set apiece.

The two sides would trade victories in the third and fourth sets with Bellevue claiming a 25-17 win in the second set and Hastings taking the fourth by a final of 25-20.

In the decisive fifth set, neither side could gain more than a two point lead and Hastings, facing match point, rallied to come away with a 16-14 victory to claim the set and a 3-2 match victory.

Senior Beth Walker finished the match with 40 assists, eight digs, and seven kills while freshman Erin Warren totaled 11 digs on the match. Sophomore Hope Lambrecht and freshman Lauren Colpitts recorded eight and six kills, respectively.

Bellevue (1-5) returns to the court on Thursday, Sept. 3 when they host Culver-Stockton College in their home-opener at the Gordon Lozier Athletic Center at 7:00 p.m.
