LA MIRADA, Calif. -- Playing their second ranked opponent in as many days the Bellevue University volleyball team fell against No. 16 Southern Oregon, 3-0, at the Biola Summer Slam Tournament on Friday morning. With the loss the Bruins dip to 1-1 against ranked opponents and 1-2 overall.

Match One: #16 Southern Oregon 3, Bellevue 0 (25-13, 25-18, 26-24)

Senior Beth Walker (21 assists, 11 digs) recorded her second double-double in as many matches but it wasn't enough as Bellevue dropped a straight set decision to No. 16 Southern Oregon.

Southern Oregon got off to a strong start, attacking at a remarkable .500 clip in the first set (15 kills, 3 errors) to jump out to a 1-0 lead with a 25-13 victory. Set number two saw the Raiders cool off a bit, hitting at a .206 rate and claiming a 25-18 victory to take a commanding two sets to none lead.

Rachel Wald led the way offensively with seven kills. Walker, junior LaJaida Even, and freshman Shayla Scanlan each added six for the Bruins who attacked at .098 as a team.

Sophomore Mikaylah Gillespie recorded four blocks on the morning while Even and Scanlan each helped out with three.

Bellevue (1-2) returns to the court tonight with an 8:00 p.m. match against (RV) Westmont where the Bruins will look to move back to the .500 mark before heading home.
