Bruins fall to Mustangs in double OT

PAPILLION, Neb. -- Sina Feeser's long-range strike in the second overtime period spoiled the Bellevue University women's soccer team's return to play as the Bruins fell 1-0 to Morningside College on Wednesday evening at Papillion Landing.

Records:

Bellevue: 4-2-0
Morningside: 3-1-1

Recap: Mside 1, BU 0 (2OT)

Sina Feeser scored in the 107th minute to lift Morningside past the Bruins. After a brief dribble to the center of the field, Feeser unloaded a shot from more than 30 yards out that tucked just under the crossbar and out of the reach of Bellevue keeper Sabrina Staufenbiel.

Action was minimal in the early going but the Mustangs became more comfortable in the attack as the first half wore on, compiling advantages of 8-1 in shots and 4-0 in corner kicks by the break.

Morningside out-shot Bellevue 19-10 on the evening, including 9-5 on goal, but Staufenbiel came up big for BU, keeping the Bruins in the game with a season-high eight saves.

With the game still scoreless late in the contest, Bellevue nearly had the game one when Bruna Cola Bielski made a cutback move to free up space for a shot. Her curler beat the keeper but just hit post as the game remained level and proceeded to overtime.

Bellevue had all five shots in the first extra period but were unable to find the winner.

Conversely, Morningside accounted for each of the four shots in the second overtime period.

Alexandra Homan recorded all five saves by Mustang keepers on the night while Sarah Finn, who came on at the interval, was credited with the victory.

Player of the Game

Marilia Lages – She battled and worked hard all game, showing quality all over the park. Also, Millie Hopkisson once again turned out a consistent performance and was instrumental late in the game.

Coach Tom White:

"Obviously we're devastated to lose in that fashion tonight but I couldn't be any prouder of the effort and work load they put in for each other. It's been 22 days since our last game with 14 of those not together. We created some great opportunities and were happy with how we came up with solutions defensively and offensively."
