Pepel scores twice to give Bruins Senior Day victory

PAPILLION, Neb. -- Saskia Pepel scored two goals off Courtney Wallingford assists and Sabrina Staufenbiel made eight saves in goal to give the Bellevue University women's soccer team a 2-0 Senior Day victory over Waldorf University on Saturday afternoon at Papillion Landing.

Saskia Pepel scored a pair of first half goals to give the Bruins all the offense they would need.

After four of the game's first five shots were recorded by Waldorf, Bellevue seized momentum in the 19th minute with Pepel's first goal off a pass from Courtney Wallingford.

Three shots were recorded over the next 14 minutes – two by Waldorf, one by BU – until Pepel found her second goal of the game in the 33rd minute, again off a pass from Wallingford.

The score remained 2-0 to the home side into the half, despite being out-shot 9-7 in the period.

The second half saw the game played pretty evenly as BU out-shot the Warriors 9-8 and 7-4 on goal.

Waldorf out-shot BU 17-16 for the game but were unable to solve Bruin keeper Sabrina Staufenbiel who made eight saves in goal.

Sarah Rodriguez stopped eight shots in the loss for Waldorf.

Saskia Pepel – Scored both goals to help the Bruins finish the regular-season with a 6-6-2 record.

Bellevue travels to Lawrenceville, Ga. for the Association of Independent Institutions' Tournament from Friday-Saturday, Nov. 15-16. The tournament bracket should be released sometime next week.
