Bruins secure signature of transfer defender Maahs

BELLEVUE, Neb. -- The Bellevue University women's soccer team, under head coach Tom White, announced today the signing of Emah Maahs (Waverly, Neb./Waverly HS) to a National Letter of Intent to continue her academic and athletic careers at Bellevue beginning this fall.

Maahs is the daughter of Zach and Beki Maahs. She comes to Bellevue from Wayne State College where she spent her freshman season. She played significant minutes, averaging 54 per game, for the Wildcats before suffering a season-ending injury.

She played for Waverly High School and Gretna Soccer Club and received coaching from Joel Fritz and Zack Brennan, respectively. At Bellevue, Maahs intends to major in Criminal Justice.

Maahs holds both the single-season and career assists record at Waverly High School. She was a three-year starter, and four-year letter-winner, for the Vikings collecting a pair of All-Eastern Midland Conference honors. Twice an Academic All-Conference selection and an Academic All-State recipient, Maahs received an All-State honorable mention while helping Waverly to the most wins in school history during her junior season. As a senior, she picked up her second-straight All-State honorable mention to cap her scholastic career.

Coach White on Maahs:

"As soon as I met Emah, I knew she would be a perfect fit to what we want to create here. Her character is contagious and her work ethic is second-to-none. I cannot wait to see her gel with our current squad of players and help us achieve success."

Maahs joins earlier signees Maddy Vasquez (Omaha, Neb.), Alanis Neely (Council Bluffs, Iowa), Kaycee Driever (Nebraska City, Neb.), Jaedyn Tryon (Omaha, Neb.), Abril Mendez (Omaha, Neb.), Amelia Paiz-Garcia (Canton, Ga.), and Angela Miranda (Omaha, Neb.) in the Bruins' 2019 recruiting class.

Bellevue finished the 2018 season with a 10-5-0 overall record, marking BU's 15th-straight season with at least 10 victories, and qualified for the A.I.I. Tournament.

The Bruins open the 2019 campaign on Thursday, Aug. 15 with an away fixture in Sioux City, Iowa at Elwood Olsen Stadium against Morningside College. Kick-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
