BELLEVUE, Neb. -- Katie Bares scored two goals and Viterbo netted a pair of strikes in a span of 85 seconds to jump on the Bellevue University women's soccer team en route to a 3-0 North Star Athletic Association victory for the V-Hawks.

After a slow start to the season Viterbo has now won four straight contests while Bellevue saw both their six-game win streak and five-game scoreless streak snapped.

Viterbo owned the majority of possession in the first half and gained numerous chances but couldn't capitalize until Katie Bares scored in the 38th minute. Maria Michels laid a pass off to Bares well outside the area that Bares sent in high-arching fashion over the gloves of Bruin sophomore keeper Laurence Rodier.

The V-Hawks wasted no time in doubling their advantage when Michels scored of goal of her own in the 40th minute off a quality long ball from Courtney Morgan. After Viterbo won a free kick about 35 yards from goal, Morgan sent a long ball to the back of the six-yard box that Michels headed in amongst of forest of players.

Bellevue just missed on a golden opportunity to score in the waning seconds of the opening 45 minutes. Senior Betsy Fischenich raced into the box, the first to get to a 50/50 ball, but couldn't connect on her attempt at the vacant net and Viterbo took a 2-0 lead into the intermission.

Viterbo added an insurance goal in the 61st minute after winning a penalty kick. After a BU foul in the box Bares stepped up to the spot and beat sophomore keeper Bailey Petzoldt for a 3-0 V-Hawk lead.

Fischenich led the Bruins with four shots and recorded two of the Bruins' three shots on goal. Viterbo out-shot the Bruins 22-8 (12-3 on goal) for the match.

The 15th-ranked Bruins (6-3-0/0-1-0 NSAA) are back in action on Tuesday, Oct. 6 with a 3 p.m. non-conference match against York College. Viterbo's (6-7-0/2-0-0 NSAA) next match will come after a two week layoff when they host Jamestown University on Saturday, Oct. 17 as part of their Senior Weekend.
