DES MOINES, Iowa -- The Bellevue University women's soccer team opened its season with a 2-2 draw against Missouri Valley College in the Grand View Invitational Saturday at the James W. Cownie Soccer Complex.
The Vikings struck first on Lucia Garcia Calvo's goal 9:49 into the match.
MVC extended its lead to 2-0 after Haley Ennis found the back of the net in the 19th minute.
Mercy Darkoah put the Bruins on the scoreboard at 23:34.
Darkoah scored her second goal of the game on a penalty kick at 31:24 that beat MVC goalie Erikka Diarte.
Caitlin Stier played all 110 minutes in goal and collected a career-high 15 saves.
The Vikings outshot the Bruins 17-11 while BU held a 4-3 edge in corner kicks.
The Bruins will battle 16th-ranked Graceland University at 6 p.m. tomorrow (Aug. 25) in Lamoni, Iowa.
