College of St. Mary edges Bruins on late goal

OMAHA, Neb. -- College of St. Mary's Melissa King scored with eight minutes remaining in the game to give the Flames a 1-0 victory over Bellevue University in Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference women's soccer action Saturday (Oct. 17) afternoon at Tranquility Park.

The loss dropped the Bruins to 8-6 overall and 1-1 in the MCAC. CSM improved to 8-4-2 and 3-0 in league play. Bellevue has now lost four-straight matches.

King scored after a shot from the Flames' Cindy Fibich rebounded off Bruin goalkeeper Sarah Boone, resulting in a loose ball in front of an empty net.

Bellevue controlled the action for most of the game, holding an 18-9 advantage in shots and a 9-5 edge in shots on goal.

Boone recorded four saves in the loss while falling to 7-6 on the season.

Jackie Swanger got the win for CSM, recording nine saves in goal.

The Bruins will return to action on Wednesday, Oct. 21, for a 5 p.m. non-conference match against Morningside at Tranquility Park.
