Bruins rest in fifth after first round of O-City Spring Classic

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. -- Faustina Peve and Kim Moore carded team-lows of 76 in the second round to pace the Bellevue University women's golf team to a fifth place standing through the first two rounds of the O-City Spring Classic played at the 5,920-yard, par-72 Lincoln Park Golf Course-West Course.

As a team BU ranks fifth in the 13-team field with a two round team score of 634. Oklahoma City is leading the team battle with a first day total of 608, five strokes ahead of second place Texas Wesleyan.

Savannah Moody (Oklahoma City) and Alex Schies (Texas Wesleyan) are the individual clubhouse co-leaders following 1-under two-round totals of 143.

Faustina Peve is tied for seventh overall and leads all Bruin golfers with a 36-hole total of 152. Kim Moore is next with a score of 156, good for 16th in the 71-golfer field.

Through the first round of play Bellevue sat in fifth place, eight shots back of fourth place Texas Wesleyan, with a team total of 320. McLennan CC (303) jumped out to the early lead, a stroke ahead of William Penn (304).

Peve recorded a BU first round low of 76 as she was tied for fifth in the early going. Alejandra Rodriguez (McLennan CC) shot a 4-under 68 for the individual lead through 18 holes. She was two strokes up on Savannah Moody (Oklahoma City) who was the only other player to record a score under par.

Oklahoma City and Texas Wesleyan controlled the second round up play, moving up two spots apiece, with scores of 302 and 300, respectively. The Bruins shot 314 in the round as they crept up to within 14 strokes of McLennan CC and William Penn who are tied for third place.

Peve and Moore posted matching scores of 76 in the second round as the Bruins shaved six strokes off their first round score.

Madison Brooks (t-31st, 81-80—161) and Allison Temple (t-40th, 83-82—165) each improved their scores from the first to second round. Morgan Hazzard (t-53rd, 83-89—172) rounded out the BU lineup on Monday.

The third, and final, round will be played tomorrow with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start.
