Bruins finish seventh at Creighton Classic

OMAHA, Neb. -- Wendy Monfort recorded a top 20 finish to help the Bellevue University women's golf team to a seventh place finish at the Creighton Classic.

The Creighton Classic was played at the 5,965-yard, par-72 Oak Hills Country Club Tuesday. 

The Bruins improved 13 strokes from Monday's first round, finishing with a two-round total of 653 (333-320). Bellevue was the lone NAIA squad in the nine-team field with all other participants NCAA Division I schools. 

Bellevue finished sandwiched between Omaha-area schools Creighton (6th, 644) and Omaha (8th, 657).

Western Illinois University took home the team title with a 36-hole team total of 618 (311-307), edging out the University of South Dakota by four strokes.  Brenna Lervick won the individual title with a two-round total of 146, two strokes ahead of North Dakota State's Natalie Roth.

Monfort was the top BU finisher with a two-round total of 159 following her second round 78. She placed in a tie for 18th in the 60-golfer field.

Faustina Peve and Hannah Maschong also earned top 30 finishes with scores of 161 and 162 to place in a tie for 24th and 28th, respectively.

Ivane Helias improved three strokes from yesterday (87-84) while Morgan Hazzard carded a 102 on the day and Bri Stagge - as an individual - recorded a 112.

The tournament concludes the Bruins' fall season.
