BU finishes in a tie for 8th at NAIA National Championships

POOLER, Ga. -- Led by freshman Wendy Monfort, the Bellevue University women's golf team finished in a tie for eighth place at the weather-shortened NAIA Women's Golf National Championships Friday being played at the 6,010-yard, par-72 Savannah Quarters Country Club.

Originally scheduled for 72 holes, the tournament, which was plagued by rain throughout the last four days, was cut short to 36 holes. 

The Bruins, who started the day in 15th place, bettered their opening-round team score by 20 strokes, finishing with a final score of 620 (320-300). 

Keiser University captured the team title with a team score of 599 (306-293), 11 strokes better than second place finishers, William Woods and SCAD-Savannah.  

University of Cumberlands' Kaitlyn Riley was the individual champion, finshing the tournament at 4-under par (72-68). 

Monfort shot an even par 72 on Friday and finished with a two-day total of 7-over par 151 (79-72), good for a tie for 11th place. She was named to the all-tournament team for her efforts. 

Karissa Moreland was 1-over on the day and 10-over for the tournament, putting her in a tie for 30th overall. 

Maria Saavedra carded a 4-over 76 Friday, finishing in a tie for 41st with a 156 (80-76) two-round total. 

Natalia Soria and Ivane Helias both collected 7-over 79's on Friday as all the Bruin golfers finished under 80 in the final round. 

This marks the third-straight year the Bruins have finished in the top 10 at the NAIA National Championships.
