POOLER, Ga. -- The Bellevue University women's golf team is currently in a tie for 15th place after the first round of competition at the NAIA Women's Golf National Championship. The tournament is being played at the 6,010-yard, par-72 Savannah Quarters Country Club.
Due to inclement weather, the first round lasted nearly 48 hours and as a result, a round will be taken away and the tournament will turn into a 54-hole event.
Keiser University and the University of Cumberlands are currently tied for the team lead with both squads firing opening-round team scores of 306. Bellevue is still within striking distance, just 14 strokes off the lead with team score of 320.
Freshman Wendy Monfort had the top BU score on the day after shooting a 7-over 79, which puts her in a tie for 38th place in the individual standings.
Seniors Natalia Soria and Maria Saavedra both shot 80 on the day, which lands them in a tie for 49th place. Senior Karissa Moreland carded an 81 and freshman Ivane Helias shot an opening-round score of 82.
Keiser's Elsa Westin leads the field after firing a 1-under par 71. Cumberlands' Kaitlyn Riley and Coastal Georgia's Sarah Gilliard are both one stroke back at even par.
The second round will begin Thursday with tee times yet to be determined.
