Winkler named NSAA Player of the Week

BELLEVUE, Neb. -- Bellevue University junior Jamie Winkler (Louisville, Neb.) has been named the North Star Athletic Association Women's Basketball Player of the Week, as announced by the league office on Monday.

Winkler helped the Bruins pick up a pair of victories last week. She averaged 12.5 points, 4.5 assists, and 4.0 rebounds per game on the week as she totaled five steals and shot 42.1 percent from the floor and 50 percent from beyond the three-point line.

BU defeated Haskell Indian Nations 71-48 on Monday and followed that up with a 72-48 triumph over Nebraska Christian on Saturday.

In the win over Haskell, Winkler poured in a game-high 19 points to go along with five boards and five assists. Against NCC, she dished out four assists and registered three steals to go along with six points and three rebounds.

Winkler became the third different Bruin to win the conference's weekly honor, joining Elexis Martinez (Nov. 4, Nov. 11, Dec. 2) and Faith Ross (Dec. 16).

For the season, Winkler is averaging 9.5 points and 3.1 rebounds per game. She ranks second on the team with 41 assists and 20 three-pointers.

Bellevue (11-6 | 1-0 NSAA) closes out their non-conference slate tomorrow evening with a 6 p.m. tip-off against No. 7-ranked Morningside College (13-4 | 8-2 GPAC).
