Milestone lands Martinez NSAA Player of the Week honors

MADISON, S.D. -- Bellevue University junior Elexis Martinez (Omaha, Neb.) has been named the North Star Athletic Association Women's Basketball Player off the Week, as announced by the league office on Monday afternoon.

Martinez averaged 10.5 points and 6.5 rebounds per game to help Bellevue to a 1-1 mark at the C3 Hotel Classic this past weekend in Hastings, Neb.

With a 15-point, eight-rebound performance against Doane University on Friday afternoon, Martinez became the first player in BU women's basketball history to reach the 1,000-point plateau.

This award is already the third of the season (Nov. 4, Nov. 18) for Martinez and eighth of her Bruin career.

Martinez ranks fourth in the NSAA averaging 15 points per game on 43.6 percent shooting from the floor and 71.6 percent from the free throw line, both of which rate fifth among qualifiers in the conference. Additionally she is averaging 8.4 rebounds per game and has blocked 14 shots which place her fourth and second, respectively, in the North Star.

The Bruins open North Star play against Dakota State University at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 7 at the DSU Fieldhouse.
