HASTINGS, Neb. -- Sixth-ranked Hastings College remained undefeated on the season after securing an 83-54 victory over the Bellevue University women's basketball team Saturday afternoon in the final game of the C3 Hotel Classic being played at the Lynn Farrell Arena.
With the loss, the Bruins fell to 6-4 on the season. Hastings moved to 10-0 overall.
Jerrene Richardson led the Bruins with 18 points, five rebounds, and four steals. She was the lone Bruin in double figures.
Bellevue shot 41.3 percent from the field and drilled 4-of-10 from behind the arc, but the Bruins were plagued by 30 turnovers. HC scored 37 points off BU turnovers.
Gabby Grasso and Kaitlyn Schmit scored 15 points apiece to lead five Broncos in double figures. Shandra Farmer added 14 points, eight assists, five rebounds, and four steals. Sophia Pankratz contributed with 11 points and seven boards.
The Broncos hit 11-of-17 (64.7 percent) shots in the first quarter and forced 10 BU turnovers as Hastings took a 25-14 lead after the opening 10 minutes of play. Farmer scored 10 first-quarter points.
Hastings led by as many as 24 points in the second quarter before settling for a 49-26 advantage at the break. The Broncos shot 65.6 percent (21-of-32) from the field in the first half. Farmer finished the opening 20 minutes with 12 points, six assists, and three rebounds.
Richardson led BU in the first half with 12 points on 5-of-8 shooting from the field.
The Broncos capitalized on 20 first-half turnovers by BU, scoring 20 points off Bruin miscues.
A short jumper by Ali Smith capped a 15-2 run, extending the Bronco advantage to 43 points at 75-32 at the end of three quarters.
The Bruins outscored Hastings 22-8 in the fourth stanza to make the final 83-54.
Hastings shot 56.5 percent from the field and held a 30-19 edge in total rebounds.
Bellevue will begin conference action next Saturday, Dec. 7, when they travel to Madison, S.D. for a 3 p.m. contest at Dakota State University.
