Martinez lands sixth NSAA Player of the Week honor

MADISON, S.D. -- Bellevue University junior Elexis Martinez (Omaha, Neb.) has been named the North Star Athletic Association's Women's Basketball Player of the Week, as announced by the league office on Monday afternoon.

The honor is the sixth of Martinez's Bruin career after being named the NSAA's Player of the Week once as a freshman and four times last season.

Martinez led the Bruins to a perfect 3-0 week averaging 17.7 points and 9.7 rebounds per game. She shot 47.4 percent for the week and blocked seven shots while posting a pair of double-doubles to bring her career double-double total to nine.

She began the week with a 13-point performance that included a trio of rebounds and blocked shots as Bellevue picked up their third-straight victory over College of St. Mary.

Against Midland University, to open the BU/NCC Classic, Martinez scored a season-high 23 points on 9-of-16 shooting and pulled down 12 boards while blocking three more shots. The win was Bellevue's first against Midland.

Martinez closed the week by scoring 17 points and pulling down a season-best 14 rebounds in an 83-41 victory over Cottey College.

Bellevue (4-1) concludes a run of three-straight home games on Wednesday, Nov. 6 when they host Kansas Wesleyan University (1-0) from the Gordon Lozier Athletic Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
