BELLEVUE, Neb. -- The Bellevue University softball team split a double-header with visiting Presentation College in North Star action at the Lied Center on Monday afternoon. Bellevue score a 1-0 walkoff win in the opener before Presentation went on to claim a 2-0 victory in the nightcap.
The Bruins improve to 30-18 (17-5 North Star) on the year while the Saints fall to 23-25 (11-11 North Star).
Bellevue and Presentation are back at it with a double-header tomorrow at 1 p.m. at the Lied Center.
GAME ONE: Bellevue 1, Presentation 0
Sydney Robertson's seventh inning run was the only offense in this one as Bellevue eked out a 1-0 pitcher's duel in the opener.
With the score deadlocked at 0-0 and two outs in the bottom of the seventh, Sayde Woten came to bat and delivered an infield single off the pitcher's glove. The ball caromed to the second baseman who hurried an ill-advised throw to first that was off the mark, allowing Robertson to come in from second.
The first scoring chance came in the third inning. With Kaitlyn Goney at second base, Sarah Zeleny blooped a single down the left field line but Goney was thrown out on a bang-bang play at the plate.
Both pitchers were sharp throughout but it was BU's Kelli Fisher that came away with the win. Fisher fired a four-hit shutout and struck out a pair of batters to improve her record to 19-10 on the season.
Kayla Reynolds took the loss for Presentation despite only allowing five hits and an unearned run to fall to 11-11.
Zeleny led the Bruins with a two-hit game while Kayla Young, Woten, and Goney each added singles.
GAME TWO: Presentation 2, Bellevue 0
Presentation won game two in an almost carbon copy of game one by a count of 2-0.
Presentation got on the board in the sixth inning, courtesy of a leadoff solo home run from Shelby Anderson, her eighth of the season.
The Saints scratched across an insurance run in the seventh. Krystle Schweers notched a one-out single before advancing to third on a two-base throwing error following a failed pickoff attempt. She came in to score on a two-out single from Haylee Hemmert.
Michaela Miller got the start in the circle and logged 3.1 scoreless innings before giving way to the bullpen.
The Bruins were out-hit 7-3 in game two.
Kelli Fisher (19-11) suffered the loss in relief.
