FREMONT, Neb. -- Bellevue University and Midland University split its doubleheader Wednesday night in nonconference action at Christensen Field.

The Bruins took the opener, 6-1, before the Warriors posted a 3-2 victory in the nightcap.

Bellevue improved to 12-8 overall while Midland moved to 9-8 this year.

The Bruins will travel to McPherson, Kan. for the Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference Crossover on Friday-Saturday, March 28-29.

Bellevue 6, Midland 1

Despite being held without a hit until the fourth inning, the Bruins scored all six of their runs in the last four innings with two outs to win the opener, 6-1.

Shelby Kindelin drew a walk and stole second base before coming around to score the first run of the game on an Ashley Gigax two-out RBI single in the fourth inning.

The Bruins added to their lead in the top of the fifth on Alyssa Matoba's single that scored Augusta Ratliff.

Ratliff tallied a two-run single in the sixth to give BU a 4-0 advantage.

The first three MU batters reached base in the home half of the sixth, but starting pitcher Kelli Fisher was able to limit the Warriors to just one run on a sacrifice fly.

Kindelin hit an RBI double and BU scored the final run of the game on an error to take a five-run lead in the seventh inning.

After throwing a perfect game in her last outing, Fisher tossed a complete game four-hitter with eight strikeouts to improve to 6-2.

Gigax, Matoba and Ratliff combined for six hits, four RBIs and three runs to lead the offense.

Sammy Hislop took the loss for the Warriors and fell to 5-3. She allowed six runs on seven hits with three walks and struck out a career-high 12 batters.

Midland 3, Bellevue 2

The Warriors scored a run in the sixth inning to edge the Bruins, 3-2, and salvage a split in the finale.

MU took its first lead of the day on a Bruin fielding error in the first inning.

Kindelin registered her first triple of the season that allowed Courtney Schendt, who led the third inning off with a walk, to cross home plate.

The Warriors regained the lead on Wallick's two-out single in the bottom of the third.

Sydney Robertson opened the fifth inning with a single and came around to score on Gigax's second RBI of the day to tie the contest at 2-2.

Starting pitcher Sarah Leimser hit an RBI double in the bottom of the sixth to lift the Warriors to the 3-2 victory. Leimser moved to 3-4 with the complete game win in the circle. 

Kindelin (1-2) suffered the loss in relief. Taylor Mohler started the game and struck out four in three complete innings in the no-decision.
