Bellevue University senior Richard Marcoux has once again been selected as the North Star Athletic Association’s Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week, as announced by the league office on Tuesday.
The Bruin men's cross country team continued their record-breaking season at today's Blazing Tiger Invite with a top-ten team finish among 27 full-scoring teams. Doane University and College of St. Mary were the host schools for Saturday's meet at Mahoney State Park, which featured five of the top 15 NAIA-ranked men's squads, along with three others receiving votes in the latest NAIA national ranking. The Bruin men finished eighth behind those five ranked teams and two of the teams who were receiving votes.
For the second time this season and the eighth time in his Bruin career, Richard Marcoux has earned North Star Athletic Association Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week honors for his performance at last week's Dordt Holiday Inn Express Classic.
In what Head Coach Craig Christians categorized as the "best day in men's program history," the Bruin cross country team established team and individual school records at Saturday's Holiday Inn Express Classic hosted by Dordt University. Held under near-perfect conditions on Dordt's campus course, the men ran to a fourth-place finish in the eleven-team field, defeated only by NAIA No. 12 ranked Dordt, No. 14 ranked Doane, and RV Concordia while narrowly defeating (RV) Benedictine. In the process, the men produced a cumulative team time for their five scoring runners of 2:09:59.5, an average of 25:59.9 per person. That eclipsed the team record set two weeks previously by three and a half minutes.
The Open race featured ten ranked or receiving votes NAIA teams as the Bruins placed twelfth of 15 NAIA squads and 21st of 26 total entered teams. The Bruins did squeeze out a twelve-point win over conference rival Dakota State to retain their No. 1 ranking in the NSAA. The top five scorers averaged 26:43.8, which was a team record. Individually, it was a record-setting day over the eight-kilometer distance, beginning with a freshman all-time best by Xavier Mallow as he ran 26:05.6 to place 134th in the 389-runner field.
The Bellevue University men's cross country team had their second strong showing of the young cross country season with a 14th-place (of 26) finish at Saturday’s Greeno/Dirksen Invitational hosted by Nebraska Wesleyan and UNL. The Bruins defeated a number of NCAA Division II squads, with generally NCAA Division I and nationally ranked NAIA teams ahead of them. The meet was run over the gently rolling hills of Mahoney Golf Course in Lincoln, with very warm and humid conditions impacting times.
The Bellevue University men's and Women's cross country teams opened their 2024 campaign at Friday's Augustana Twilight and walked away with a historic performance. The evening races held at Yankton Trails Park in Sioux Falls were run in near-perfect distance running conditions with temperatures in the low 70s and a light breeze.
The Bellevue University men's cross country team will kick off the 2024 season under the lights on September 6 at the Augie Twilight meet in Sioux Falls. Among those on the starting line will be several transfer athletes who are expected to contribute to the best depth in program history. New transfer student-athletes include:
