Four Bruins record PR's at Briar Cliff Invite

NORTH SIOUX CITY, Iowa -- All but one Bruin recorded a personal best time on Saturday afternoon at the Briar Cliff Invitational as the Bellevue University men's cross country team raced to an 11th place finish at the Adams Nature Preserve.

Bellevue was again led by Chris Casart, who placed 36th, with a personal best time of 27:02.3. Cole Wagner was nearly a minute better than his previous best time this season with a time of 27:31.4 to finish 49th while Edrei Murillo came 71st in a time of 28:28.5.

Aaron Newton bested his previous best time by a whopping minute and a half with a time of 28:48.0 to place 82nd and Salah Hilowle came across in 120th place in a time of 31:04.3, a 40 second personal record.

As a team, Bellevue placed 11th of the 14 squads

Coach Craig Christians:

"Today's performance was very good considering how hard we've been training. We knew the Briar Cliff course was a fast one but I think our expectations were greatly exceeded with the times we saw today. I thought Aaron Newton had a breakout race with a huge (1:37) personal best. He has worked so hard for the past two years and it was great to see him make this big jump today. This was a great way to head into a couple weeks of training without racing as we begin our drive toward the conference meet in about a month."

Up Next:

Bellevue has the next two weekends off before returning to the course on Saturday, Oct. 26 for the Mount Marty Invitational in Yankton, S.D. Start time is scheduled for 10:30 a.m.
