OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. -- Despite scoring first, the No. 5-ranked Bellevue University men's soccer team left Brian Harvey Field with a 1-1 draw at Oklahoma City University on Thursday evening.
Both teams remain unbeaten with the Bruins moving to 6-0-1 on the year while the Stars seeing their record now stand at 4-0-1.
OCU saw the first great scoring chance, winning at PK in the 11th minute but Taariq Ganga dove and pushed away Keita Kishino's attempt to keep the game scoreless.
Ombeni Mubake put the Bruins on the board with an unassisted strike in the game's 14th minute. Mubake came crashing at the back post to slam home a loose ball off a Bruin corner kick for his fourth goal of the year.
Oklahoma City pressured the remainder of the half looking for an equalizer, out-shooting BU 6-2 over the next half hour but the Bruins carried their 1-0 advantage into halftime.
The Stars kept up the pressure in the second half, out-shooting BU 10-0 with Bernardo Duarte finding the back of the net in the 63rd minute, cleaning up an initial miss from Lorenzo Nardini.
Ganga totaled six saves for Bellevue while Alexis Bertrand went the full 90 without a stop in goal for OCU.
Fouls finished even at nine apiece, through Oklahoma City was whistled for a trio of yellows to one for Bellevue.
The Bruins are back in action on Saturday for a 7:30 p.m. kick-off at University of Science & Arts.
