Balanced second round sees Bruins secure second place finish

SILVIS, Ill. -- Four Bruin golfers shot within four strokes of par in Tuesday's second round as the Bellevue University men's golf team closed out a second place finish at the NAIA Fall Preview played at TPC Deere Run.

Bellevue (+22) shaved four strokes off their first round total to shoot a 9-over 293 as a team on Tuesday.

The Bruins posted a two-round score of 590, six shots off the pace of team champion Point University (+16). The Skyhawks matched their 8-over first round with an identical second round to shoot 584 as a team.

Point had a pair of golfers finished third and fourth, respectively, while two others finished in a five-way tie for fifth.

Bellevue had the second place finisher, two tied for fifth, and another who finished in a tie for 11th place.

Indiana Wesleyan University (601, +33) held onto their third place position while Grand View University (613, +45) and Mount Mercy University (624, +56) rounded out the top five.

Individual Recap:

Indiana Wesleyan's Cameron Luczka entered the day in ninth place, six shots behind Point's Ruan Pretorius, but carded a tournament-best 68 (-3) to take home individual medalist honors with a 36-hole total of 143.

Luczka (+1) defeated BU's Andre Becerra (+2) by a single stroke after Becerra followed up yesterday's even par performance with a 2-over round. Becerra notched three birdies on the day

Pretorius (+3), who began the day with a two-stroke lead over Becerra, finished third with a score of 145.

Rodrigo Navarette (+5) and Floris-Jan Oosterhof (+5) registered rounds of 75 and 71, respectively, as they were among the conglomerate to shoot 147 and tie for fifth. Oosterhof registered a team-best four birdies, including three-straight (16-18) on the day and Navarette birdied hole 2.

Baptiste Bonnet (+10) trimmed four strokes of his round one score to shoot 3-over (74) on the day and climb from 22nd to tie for 11th on the leaderboard. He birdied 14 and 17.

BU's fifth golfer, Alex Zillig (+21), slipped from a 79 in the first round to shoot 84 on Tuesday to finished tied for 37th in the 75-golfer field.
