SILVIS, Ill. -- Led by freshman Andre Becerra, the Bellevue University men's golf team is currently tied for second place after the opening round of the 11-team TPC Deere Run Invitational being played at the TPC at Deere Run Golf Club.
The Bruins shot an opening-round team score of 5-over-par 289 and are tied for second with Taylor University. The University of Northwestern Ohio leads the field with a 1-over team score of 285.
Beccera is tied for first place in the 60-player field after shooting a first round score of 3-under-par 68. He is tied with Our Lady of the Lake University's Kane Ybarra.
Fernando Arzate is tied for third place after firing a 1-under 70 on Friday. Diego Gudino shot a 4-over 75 and is tied for 22nd place. Nicolas Handal carded a 5-over 76 and is tied for 27th place. Juan Gomez is tied for 35th place with a 7-over 78.
The final round will begin on Saturday with a 9 a.m. shotgun start.
