BU Men's Golf holds first round lead at NSAA Championships

ALBERT LEA, Minn. -- The defending North Star Athletic Association men's golf champion Bellevue University owns a six-stroke lead following the first round of this year's NSAA Championship.

The tournament's first two rounds are being played at the Wedgewood Cove Golf Club in Albert Lea, Minn. with the third and fourth rounds to be contested in April.

Diego Gudino is tied for the individual lead with Valley City State University's Kyle Wiebe after firing a first round 2-over 74. Bellevue's Fernando Arzate is two strokes off the pace at 4-over.

BU leads the tournament by six strokes over second place Valley City, 308-314. Jamestown is in third nine strokes back with a score of 317. Viterbo (322), Waldorf (335), and Dickinson State (369) round out the tournament field in fourth through sixth place.

The Bruins' Juan Gomez, Nicolas Handal, and Lautaro Marzilio are all matched in a four-way tie for eighth place after carding first round 7-overs.

Play resumes tomorrow with the tournament's second round where the Bruins will try to extend their lead.
