Frederick Gatson is entering his third season under Bruin head coach Shane Paben in 2017-18. A Riverdale, Ga. native, Gatson spent the previous five years as a student-athlete at Spring Hill College in Mobile, Ala.

As a student-athlete at Spring Hill, Gatson led the team in scoring and rebounding during the 2013-14 season, averaging 12 points per game and pulling down seven rebounds per contest. His accolades included: 2011-12 Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC) All-Freshman team, 2012-13 and 2013-14 SSAC All-Conference and All-West Division, and 3rd Team All-Independents Collegiate Athletic Association team for independent schools in NCAA Division II.

After suffering a season-ending injury during the 2014-15 season, Gatson joined the Badger coaching staff as a student-assistant for the last 17 games of the season. The team went 10-7 during that span. After the season, Gatson joined the Alabama Challenge AAU program as a head coach for the 16U team.

Gatson received his bachelor’s degree in psychology from Spring Hill College in 2014.
