BELLEVUE, Neb. -- Senior Alex Worthen-Harris poured in a career-high 20 points to lead the ninth-ranked Bellevue University men's basketball team to a 64-61 victory over Dakota State University in the final game of the 2014 Hampton Inn Holiday Classic Tuesday night at the Gordon Lozier Athletic Center.
Bellevue, who defeated DSU on Dec. 6, 68-64, in Madison, S.D., improved to 12-2 on the season with the win. The Trojans dropped to 4-9 overall. The Bruins have now won seven-straight games.
Worthen-Harris went 6-for-9 from the field and hit all seven of his free throw attempts while adding six rebounds, two assists and a pair of steals in the victory.
Percy Lemle also finished in double figures with 11 points while adding three rebounds. Dimitri Chonis contributed with nine points and a game-high eight rebounds.
Ian Barse and Cameron Robinson paced the Trojans with 15 points apiece.
The Trojans led the majority of the first half with the largest margin at eight points (20-12), before BU closed the period on a 12-4 run to take a 35-33 advantage at the break.
Worthen-Harris paced the Bruin offense in the opening period with 13 points on 3-of-5 shooting from the field.
After Barse hit a 3-pointer to open the second half, giving DSU a 36-35 edge, the Bruins responded with five-straight points and never trailed the remainder of the contest.
A Lemle 3-pointer at the 6:42 mark gave BU its largest lead of the game at nine points (56-47).
The Trojans fought back and got to within three points on four occasions, but Lemle scored four points in the final minute and Thomas Hammock nailed a pair of free throws with five seconds left to preserve the 64-61 victory.
The Bruins will travel to Point Lookout, Mo. on Jan. 2-3 to compete in the McDonald's Cam Jam Classic on the campus of the College of the Ozarks.
