Hall of Fame Criteria for Induction

I.      Who May Be Nominated

A)     Athletes

B)     Coaches

C)     Administrators/Contributors

D)     Teams

E)     Posthumous Candidates

II.     Selection Criteria

 A)     Athletes (must meet all criteria in this category)

  • Must be 10 years removed from completing athletic eligibility.  The “10 years removed” requirement can be waived, for extenuating circumstances, by an unanimous vote of the Hall of Fame Executive Committee.
  • Must have played a minimum of 2 years at BU
  • One or more of the following: All-American, All-District/Region, All-Conference, BU Athlete of the Year
  • Graduate of Bellevue University** (See Footnote)
  • Nominees shall have separated from the college/university in a position of good standing.  This shall be defined, but not limited to: nominees considered for membership in the Bellevue University Athletic Hall of Fame shall have demonstrated the highest standards of personal/professional character and morals during their time at the university.  These same standards shall be present at the time of their selection. 


B)     Coaches (must meet all criteria in this category)
 

  • Career accomplishments at BU
  • Overall contribution to BU Athletic Department: Conference Championships, Graduation rates
  • Must be 5 years removed from Coaching at BU
  • Left BU in good standing (See definition in Section II: A)

C)     Administrators/Contributors (must meet one or more criteria in this category)

  • Accomplishments in promoting and supporting BU Athletics
  • Volunteer work, donations, fund raising
  • Left BU in good standing. (See definition in Section II:)

 

D)    Teams (must meet one or more criteria in this category)

  • NAIA National Championship or Finalist
  • Conference/District/Regional Championship
  • Undefeated Season
  • Major victories over superior opponents
  • Winning season against all odds

III.   Process

A) Nominations may only be accepted on the university athletic website.  This information is immediately sent to the sports information department for validation of the nominee/former student athlete’s academic/athletic/personal/professional status at Bellevue University.  After a thorough review, the sports information department will forward the initial ballot to the Hall of Fame Executive Committee for approval. 

B)  Anyone with BU connections (current or former coach, current or former athlete, employee) may nominate a candidate/candidates. 

C)  Support for the nominee (resume, articles, scores, stats, etc.,) should accompany the nomination.        

D)  Candidates may not nominate themselves.

E)  No candidate will be informed of their nomination as the committee will hold this in strict confidence.

F)  Nominees will remain on the nomination list for three years. If after three years, the nominee has not been selected, he/she may be re-nominated for another three-year period by any Hall Of Fame Executive Committee member. 

G)  Nominations will not be accepted after the established deadline.

H)  Voting on the Hall of Fame should be completed by February 1st of each year.

IV.   Hall Of Fame Executive Committee Composition and Voting 

A)    The Hall Of Fame Executive Committee will be comprised of a minimum/maximum of 7/11 members. The Hall of Fame Executive Committee shall hold its annual meeting in January.  

  • At the annual meeting, a chairperson shall be selected for a three-year period by the Hall of Fame Executive Committee to preside at meetings and act as spokesperson.

  • Former Athletes of the Year (1 or 2) KEVIN RILEY, BUZZ GARLOCK
  • Hall of Fame (HOF) inductees (1 or 2) JERRY MOSSER
  • Jerry and Gloria Mosser Scholarship  GLORIA MOSSER
  • Former Coach  JOE FORAL
  • Executive Committee Secretary andCurrent Coach TRISH SIEDLIK
  • At Large Members  MIKE LIVERGOOD and RON PETAK

B)     The AD and SID are permanent members. Other members will serve a minimum of 3 years. (If they request to remain on the Hall Of Fame Executive Committee they will be allowed to do so with a simple majority approval from the Hall of Fame Executive Committee members present at the meeting).

C)   When a vacancy occurs on the Hall of Fame Executive Committee, new members are added by a committee nomination and a super majority vote (66%) of the committee members present.

D)   TERMS OF OFFICE:

Bellevue University AD and SID are permanent members.

Ron Petak, Kevin Riley                                            1/21 to 1/24

Jerry Mosser, Gloria Mosser, Buzz Garlock                 1/20 to 1/23

Mike Livergood, Trish Siedlik, Joe Foral                     1/19 to 1/22

E)     Hall Of Fame Executive Committee members and all HOF inductees will vote on the initial ballot and candidate(s) for entry into the Hall of Fame.


F)   Once the ballot results have been tallied and forwarded to the Hall of Fame Executive Committee, a super majority (66%) of a Committee vote (of those present) will be required for official entry into the Hall of Fame.
** An exception can be made for a former Student–Athlete who did not graduate due to 1) a need to transfer to finish their degree in a particular field (Education, Nursing, etc.) or 2) the Student-Athlete completed their eligibility at Bellevue University but because of personal circumstances did not complete their degree. In the latter case it will require a unanimous vote by the HOF Executive Committee for entry into the Hall of Fame.

V. Ballot Process

A) Hall of Fame Executive Committee members and all HOF inductees will vote on the candidate(s) for entry into the Hall of Fame.

B) Voters will select their Top 4 potential inductees with placing #1 for their top pick, #2 for their second, #3 for their third, and #4 for their final selection.

C) Voters are to then email their ballot back to the Secretary/Current Coach (Trish Siedlik) by the deadline given.

D) Ballots will be tallied and results forwarded to the Hall of Fame Executive Committee.

E) Hall of Fame Executive Committee members will make the final decision to officially announce the next Hall of Fame Inductees. 

VI.  Changes/Updates to the Hall of Fame Criteria for Induction

A)  Any change or update to the Criteria for Induction shall require a two-meeting process.  The first meeting shall address the change/update as a report to the Hall of Fame Executive Committee.  The second meeting shall require a super majority (66%) affirmative vote of the committee members present, for the change/update to become official.
