Baseball announces first 2020 signing

BELLEVUE, Neb. -- Bellevue University baseball coach Duane Monlux announced today the signing of Dalton Stamper (Lewiston, Idaho/Wenatchee Valley) to a letter of intent to continue his academic and athletic career at Bellevue beginning in the fall of 2020.

Stamper, a left-handed pitcher, comes to Bellevue after playing his junior college ball at Wenatchee Valley College in Wenatchee, Wash.

As a freshman in 2018, he started all 11 games in which he appeared and pitched to a 4.09 ERA while logging a 4-6 record. Over 48.1 innings of work, he struck out 57 batters and limited opposing hitters to just a .173 batting average.

Stamper began 2019 strong by striking out seven batters over 7.2 scoreless innings and allowing just a pair of hits. He earned the win but did not pitch again as an injury cut his season short.

Coach Monlux on Stamper:

"Dalton is a kid that we are thrilled to have signed. We have been recruiting him pretty hard the last couple of years. He will have three years of eligibility after receiving a medical hardship for the 2019 season. He is a mid-80's lefty with strikeout stuff. We can't wait to get him on campus and in a Bruin uniform."

Stamper is the first announced signing in the Bruins' 2020 signing class.

The Bruins are currently 9-11 on the season but have qualified for the Avista NAIA World Series twice in the past four seasons and have reached the NAIA National Tournament in nine-straight campaigns. In the program's storied history, BU has qualified for 22 National Tournaments, made 14 World Series Appearances, and won the 1995 National Championship.
