Versatile Diehl signed by Bruin Baseball

BELLEVUE, Neb. -- Bellevue University baseball coach Duane Monlux announced today the signing of Zach Diehl (Eugene, Ore./Tacoma CC) to a National Letter of Intent to continue his baseball and academic careers at Bellevue beginning in the fall.

Diehl comes to BU from Tacoma Community College in Tacoma, Wash. where he spent time as both an outfielder and third baseman for the Titans over the last two seasons. In 50 career games, he slashed .345/.448/.398 with 34 runs scored, 30 RBI, and 22 stolen bases in 22 attempts.

During the 2019 season, Diehl appeared in 30 games and totaled 72 at-bats in which he hit .306 with a .788 OPS, 25 runs scored, 15 RBI, and 14 stolen bases.

Coach Monlux on Diehl:

"Zach is a very good athlete and we are excited to get him to campus. He did a very good job for Tacoma CC in platoon time. The at-bats he had during his two seasons were very productive. He was outstanding on the bases, going a perfect 22-for-22 in stolen base attempts. He played mostly outfield for Tacoma, but was a shortstop in high school. We could see him in multiple roles for us at Bellevue next spring."

Diehl joins earlier signees Andrew Ishii (Salem, Ore./Chemeketa CC), Josh Vaughan (Boise, Idaho/College of the Siskiyous), Charlie Patterson (Eugene, Ore./Lane CC), Josh Jespersen (Fremont, Calif./Canada College), McGrane Pledger (Walnut Creek, Calif./Laney College), Ty Jordan (Roswell, N.M./Otero JC), and Payton Higgins (Enoch, Utah/Treasure Valley CC) in the Bruins' 2019 recruiting class.

Bellevue concluded the 2019 season with a 48-16 overall record and 23-1 mark in NSAA play. The Bruins closed the year by winning 41 of their final 44 games en route to earning the program's 14th Avista NAIA World Series Appearance. BU claimed both the NSAA Regular-Season and Tournament titles before going on to win the NAIA Opening Round – Shreveport Bracket.
