Ishii announced as first baseball signing

BELLEVUE, Neb. -- Bellevue University baseball coach Duane Monlux announced today the signing of Andrew Ishii (Salem, Ore./Chemeketa CC) to a National Letter of Intent to continue his baseball and academic careers at Bellevue beginning in the fall.

Ishii comes to BU from Chemeketa Community College in Hayesville, Ore. While at Chemeketa CC, Ishii was a two-time All-NWAC South Region selection, earning first team honors in 2019 after securing a second team nod in 2018. In addition, he was a second team All-NWAC selection in 2019.

In 81 career games, Ishii posted a .347/.438/.517/.955 line and totaled 33 extra-base hits, 61 RBI, 61 runs, and 22 stolen bases. This past season, he hit .353 with a .966 OPS and 15 extra-base hits while driving in 35 runs and scoring 29 times. He registered a .992 fielding percentage in 126 total chances.

Coach Monlux on Ishii:

"Andrew is a guy that has multiple tools. He hits for average, has some power, and can steal bases. He had two very good seasons at Chemeketa CC. We feel he has a chance to step in and do some very good things for our program here at Bellevue University."

Ishii is the first announced signing of the 2019 recruiting class.

Bellevue concluded the 2019 season with a 48-16 overall record and 23-1 mark in NSAA play. The Bruins closed the year by winning 41 of their final 44 games en route to earning the program's 14th Avista NAIA World Series Appearance. BU claimed both the NSAA Regular-Season and Tournament titles before going on to win the NAIA Opening Round – Shreveport Bracket.
