SHREVEPORT, La. -- Behind a stellar pitching performance from Jarrett Poh the Bellevue University baseball team defeated York College 6-1 at Pilot Field on Tuesday afternoon in a winner's bracket game at the NAIA National Tournament Opening Round – Shreveport Bracket to reach tomorrow's championship round.

Records:

#21 Bellevue: 45-14
York: 31-22

Recap: Bellevue 6, York 1

Bellevue received a complete game effort from left-hander Jarrett Poh (9-0) who limited York to just an unearned run on six hits as he remained unbeaten on the season. It was, by a wide margin, the best performance turned in by a starting pitcher through five games in the Shreveport Bracket.

Travis Tanaka and Kory Longaker, both turned in two-hit, two-RBI games and Cody Banks added two hits and a run driven in for the Bruins as BU out-hit the Panthers, 12-6 on the afternoon. Stuart Eurich and Bailey Link each recorded multi-hit games as well for the Bruins.

Bellevue struck for a run in the opening half inning when Banks reached on an error that allowed Longaker to score.

Tanaka singled in a pair of runs in the second to push the Bruin lead to 3-0. An inning later, Longaker doubled home a pair for a 5-0 Bellevue advantage which would be more than enough run support for Poh.

Ethan Lanz put York on the board in the bottom of the fourth with a run-scoring single to cut the BU lead to 5-1.

The Panthers nearly made it a two-run game in the sixth inning but Jake Sola's deep drive to left was caught on the warning track by Austin Alexander and Poh pitched out of trouble.

Bellevue added an eighth inning insurance run when Banks plated Daniel Teasley with a soft single to left.

Poh took care of things the rest of the way by virtue of a 1-2-3 eighth and pitching around a pair of ninth inning walks to finish off the complete game.

The win marked number 25th-straight for Bellevue and the 38th in the Bruins' last 39 games.

Longaker recorded a pair of doubles on the afternoon - No. 26 and 27 on the season - to move into a tie for the NAIA lead.

Dallin Cornelious (5-6) suffered the loss for the Panthers with 6.1 competitive innings on the bump. He allowed five runs - four earned - on 11 hits and recorded six strikeouts.

Up Next:

Bellevue advances to their fifth Opening Round Championship Game in the last six seasons (2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2019). They will play the winner of tomorrow's first game between York and Columbia. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.

York plays Columbia tomorrow at noon in an elimination game. The winner of that game will need to defeat Bellevue twice to reach the Avista-NAIA World Series.
