BELLEVUE, Neb. -- Behind a pair shutouts the Bellevue University baseball team completed a four-game sweep of Viterbo University on Sunday afternoon at Don Roddy Field on the campus of Bellevue East High School.

Bellevue won the opener 4-0 before securing a 5-0 win in the nightcap to complete the series sweep.

Records:

Bellevue: 18-13 (8-0 NSAA)
Viterbo: 6-17 (1-7 NSAA)

Game One: Bellevue 4, Viterbo 0

Anthony Alvarez (2-1) struck out a season-high seven batters as he fired eight innings of shutout ball, limiting Viterbo to just six hits, as Bellevue won the opener by a 4-0 margin to secure the series victory.

Kory Longaker reached base in all four of his plate appearances in the game registering a pair of doubles and a walk.

Bellevue struck for a run in the opening inning with Cody Banks driving in courtesy runner Brandon Sparks with a sac fly. Sparks was running for catcher Travis Tanaka who led off the home half of the first with a base hit to center field.

Stuart Eurich doubled in Austin Alexander with a two-out double in the second to put BU up 2-0 and JT Patterson brought home Longaker with a productive ground out in the third.

The Bruins sat on their 3-0 lead until the sixth inning when Alexander went deep for his third home run of the year.

Viterbo's best chances to score came in the first and third innings as they put two runners aboard with just one out. Alvarado worked out of trouble both times with a fly ball followed by a strikeout to end the threat.

Derek Browne struck out two in a 1-2-3 ninth inning to finish off the V-Hawks.

Joe Cliver (0-4) took the loss after allowing four runs on seven hits and five walks over six innings of work.

Game Two: Bellevue 5, Viterbo 0

Jarrett Poh (3-0) followed Anthony Alvarado's performance with his second-straight three-hit shutout, as he struck out nine against a pair of walks, to pitch BU to a 5-0 win and the series sweep.

Poh, the reigning NSAA Pitcher of the Week, worked out of a jam in the fourth after Viterbo loaded the bases with just one out. With the score still tied, 0-0, he struck out Evan Wenberg and Ryan Ellingson to bring the BU bats to the plate.

Kory Longaker put Bellevue on the board with an RBI-single that scored Stuart Eurich from second. After JT Patterson reached on an infield single to load the bases, Kyle Gilbertson uncorked a wild pitch that allowed Travis Tanaka to trot home from third.

BU tacked on three more runs in the fifth when Tanaka connected on a two-out, 3-2 pitch that saw all three runners, who were moving with the pitch, score on a shallow fly ball that fell in.

Poh allowed just one base runner over the final three innings that came on a two-out single from Ellingson in the seventh.

Gilbertson (2-1) took the loss for the V-Hawks, allowing five runs on six hits and issuing five walks over 4.2 innings on the hill.
